At a reception held by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for community organizations who are 'meeting the basic and special needs of those within Salt Lake City and surrounding areas', NAMI Utah was recognized for providing hope and comfort and for making a 'significant difference' in the lives of those in need throughout the community. We pass on the gratitude of the LDS church to all those who assist NAMI Utah in fulfilling its mission to ensure the dignity and improve the lives of those who live with mental illness and their families through support, education and advocacy.
NAMI Utah was honored to be a recipient of the 2007 Common Good Awards bestowed by the Coalition for Utah's Future. The mission of the Coalition for Utah's Future is ‘to create a Utah rich in opportunity, diversity and quality of life for all citizens'. In keeping with this mission, the Coalition created the Common Good Awards in 1996 to annually recognize both public and private sector entities whose actions or mission benefit the community as a whole. NAMI Utah was recognized in an for the outstanding service it provides to the community through its many free programs that provide support, education and advocacy for those living with mental illness. A luncheon was held for the presentation of the award on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at the Little America Hotel in Salt Lake City. NAMI Utah staff and Board Members attended the Awards luncheon and renewed their commitment to provide outstanding service to the community.
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) has announced that NAMI Utah is the recipient of the 2007 Outstanding State Organization Award, which was presented during the June 2007 NAMI National Convention in San Diego, California. The Outstanding State Organization Award recognizes exceptional efforts on the state level to further NAMI's mission across a broad range of activities. For 2007, NAMI Utah was the sole recipient of the prestigious award. Michael Fitzpatrick, the national organization's Executive Director said, "NAMI Utah offers a sterling example of what a well-managed affiliate with a clear sense of its mission can accomplish."
